Fees & Attendence

Before enrolling in or attending a LARC tutoring session, make sure that you understand the following policies. Please read them carefully.

Note that LARC offers three different types of sessions:
1 - Tutorials (taught by peers)
2 - Advanced Tutorials (taught by UCI graduates who are former LARC peer tutors)
3 - Adjuncts (taught by an advanced degree specialist in the subject area).

The three types of sessions have different payment schedules and rules.

1. Tutorial Fees

Attendance
When you invest in LARC tutoring, you are making an investment in your academic success; thus, you should attend ALL your tutoring sessions. Missing sessions hurts your performance and impairs the success of your tutoring group. If you need to miss a tutorial, you should notify your tutor to have your absence excused. Attendance at your first tutorial session is mandatory. Failure to attend may result in your being dropped. Two unexcused absences or three excused absences may result in your being dropped from the group and CHARGED IN FULL according to the LARC fee schedule.

Enroll Before Attending
Students MUST ENROLL through WebReg to attend any LARC tutorial. Students MAY NOT attend any LARC tutorial that they have not enrolled in. NO EXCEPTIONS! Students who attend a tutoring session they have not enrolled in WILL BE CHARGED THE SAME FEE as enrolled students, and will not be allowed to return without enrolling through WebReg. If you are unable to enroll in the session you have attended because the session is FULL, you will still be CHARGED THE SAME FEE.

Dropping a Tutorial
If you decide to stop attending a LARC tutorial, be sure to drop the tutorial through WebReg. If you FAIL TO DROP, you will remain on the tutorial class roster and will be CHARGED IN FULL according to the LARC fee schedule for tutoring, whether you attended or not! It is your responsibility to ensure that all drops have been processed. If you are informed that you have been dropped, or if you drop yourself, be sure to print a copy of your enrollment and check that the changes have taken effect. Failure to drop a tutorial by the specified deadline (either by 11:59 p.m. Saturday after the first week of classes or within 48 hours of adding/being added AND not attending any sessions) will result in your being charged.

If you have more than one unexcused absence or more than two excused absences, you may be dropped to make room for another student, but you still will be CHARGED IN FULL according to the LARC fee schedule below.

Tutorial Fee Schedule:
# of Sessions Attended Fee
1 - 2 $25.00
3+ $60.00
These fees will be applied whether you are enrolled in a LARC tutorial or not.

If you enroll in a LARC session but never attend, you will be charged unless you drop by the end of Week 1, 11:59 p.m. Saturday – no exceptions! If you enroll during or after Week 2, you have a 48-hour period (e.g., Friday 2:00 p.m. to Sunday 1:59 p.m.) in which to drop the tutorial without incurring any charges.

If you are on the waiting list for a tutorial, you will be added to the class roster automatically, as other students drop or are dropped. The Registrar’s Office will send you an email stating that you have been added. If you no longer wish to attend the tutorial, you must drop it within 48 hours of having been automatically added or you will be billed according to the above fee schedule. It is better to simply remove your name from the waiting lists for any tutorials in which you no longer wish to be enrolled.

Invoice & Payment
Your invoice will be mailed soon after week 10. Payment is due at the cashier’s office in Aldrich Hall. See your invoice for information about late fees and other information.

Note that if you are expecting a free tutorial covered by Financial Aid or by one of the other offices on campus, each has a rule about the minimum number of sessions you must attend in order for them to cover your fee. If you attend fewer than the required number of sessions, you will be responsible for paying the fee. It is your responsibility to know the number of sessions you must attend.

2. Advanced Tutorial Fees

Students sign up for Advanced Tutorials at the LARC office only, not online. The fee is paid at the time of enrollment (cash or check only). The price is $70 regardless of how many times you attend. If you have a free tutorial covered by Financial Aid or by one of the other offices on campus, that office will cover $60 of the Advanced Tutorial and you will have to pay the additional $10.

The ONLY time refunds are given is if you change your mind about attending within two working days, in which case you will receive a refund less a $25 administrative fee (i.e., the refund will be $45). For example, if you enroll and pay on a Tuesday, you have until 5 p.m. that Thursday to receive a $45 refund.

If, during the quarter, you transfer from an Advanced Tutorial to a regular Tutorial for the same course, we will not bill you for the regular Tutorial, but we will not refund the $10 difference either. Please notify the LARC office if you do this so that we can ensure that you are not billed an additional $60. However, you need to also drop your advanced tutorial.

3. Adjunct Fees

Students sign up for Adjuncts via WebReg but must pay for them during the first week of classes at the LARC office (cash or check only). Adjuncts have only a materials fee, which is paid upon enrollment. The materials fee is $15 regardless of how many times a student attends. If you have a free tutorial covered by Financial Aid or by one of the other offices on campus, Adjuncts are not included so you will need to pay the $15 fee yourself. There are no refunds for any reason, even if no sessions were attended.

If, during the quarter, you transfer from an Adjunct to a regular Tutorial for the same course, you will be billed the full $60 for the regular Tutorial.
