LARC INFORMATION SHEET—HUMANITIES CORE

The Learning and Academic Resource Center (LARC) offers two general kinds of services to Core students,

Peer Tutoring: Small-groups (6-8 students) allow tutees to review and discuss course material as they develop the skills needed for college learning. Humanities Core tutors have been recommended by faculty, were outstanding Core students themselves, have superior communication skills, and possess an enthusiasm for the Humanities and for helping students. They complete a quarter-long training course, University Studies 175, that emphasizes interactive learning. They are supervised by LARC professional staff.

Students enroll through TELE. The cost is $60 per quarter. Information about enrollment can be found at the LARC web site at www.larc.uci.edu. Tutors do not work with student writing.

Professional Writing Services: All writing services are provided by professional staff. These services are available to students without charge and come in two forms,

LARC writing counselors are sensitive to issues of authorship and academic honesty. We provide only appropriate assistance, consistent with Core guidelines on plagiarism and collusion. If questions about the authorship of a student paper arise, please contact us. We are always happy to discuss any of your concerns.

Whom to contact: Robert De France, 824-7563, rdefranc@uci.edu, will be leading Core workshops. Contact him if you have questions or concerns.
